In the wake of the recent pandemic, like many creatives, Mariko Kumon was forced to experiment with new forms of expression. In her case, it all started with the scarcity of materials to make sculpture. As there were no specialized stores open, the artist forced herself daily to give free rein to her emotions with the only thing she had available, pencil and paper.
Disturbed by the global health crisis, she tried to resist expressing anger, sadness or depression. Instead, she reflected the most honest state of her frustration and helplessness at not being able to act. Finally, she managed to capture her feelings in the drawings. She gradually shared them on her social networks, the reactions gave her the feeling that she was penetrating the depths of minds. In the end she managed to make 200 drawings of which she exhibits 120 at Artevistas gallery.
