Detail

Artevistas Gallery presents “Naked Under Skin”, a collection of intimate portraits by Spanish artist Ral. Known for his colorful and abstract depictions of women, the project sees Ral create realistic and detailed portraits and then decompose them, patching up the women’s skin with shreds of newspaper or blotching their features with splashes of paint.

The collection invites the viewer to look beyond the aesthetic beauty of his subjects, instead searching for the deeper, interior beauty that the artist exposes through his delicate, sensitive portraits.
The use of newspapers in the project also hints at the connections between physical beauty and the media, leading us to ask to what extent our ideas about beauty are constructed by commercial sources, and to consider the way in which models – especially female models – are used to sell products.
